LEADERS 2018 3 LEADERS 2018 COMMENT Published by Faversham House Windsor Court, Wood Street East Grinstead West Sussex RH19 1UZ T: 01342 332000 'Find out who's come out on top in the various key criteria' W elcome to the Leaders 2018, our annual look at the top contractors and specialist companies operating in the water industry, produced by WWT and WET News. In this special supplement we reveal the UK's top contractors based on turnover, net margin, return on capital, sales per employee, operating margin and more. The 30 largest companies by turnover with a water industry focus are included and pro€ led – ranging from some of the country's construction giants and multinational infrastructure names to smaller players which are forging success from their specialist knowledge and expertise. The € gures listed in each case are taken from the last available set of accounts made available at Companies House. You can € nd out who has come out on top in the various key criteria in our introduction feature overleaf, and then explore the company's individual pro€ le in our who's who section starting on page 6. We also take a look at some of the industry's Tier 3 specialist contrac- tors on pages 37 and 38 – these € rms play a vital role in the water sector in partnership with many of the companies in the main listings. It's been an eventful year in the world of water contracting, with some notable mergers and acquisition activity, the insolvency of a major contractor (Carillion) and the prospect of new business soon to be up for grabs as we approach the 2019 price review and AMP7. However, most of the companies highlighted in the Leaders have navigated the uncertain- ties with aplomb, and with innovation and collaboration as their watchwords, can look forward to a bright future. We hope you € nd the Leaders a useful overview of the water industry contractor landscape, and don't forget to keep up to date with contractor and water industry news at wwtonline.co.uk.
