20 WET NEWS MARCH 2014 Put simply... uk@boerger.com I +44 1902 798 977 I www.boerger.com R o ta r y L o b e P u m p s IWEX 2014 ONSITE events with water companies, Tier1 suppliers and other organisations. The organisation has devel- oped BWise to ensure that the innovations promoted at these events are freely and readily available to the wider water industry. In a little over two years, Brit- ish Water has delivered 13 Inno- vation Exchanges and dates for the next two have now been set. So far, more than 450 ten- minute presentations have been given in just short of 50 work- shops, putting 160-plus differ- ent suppliers and their innova- tions in front of water companies and client organisations from across the UK. Snapshot "The problem with a ten-minute presentation," says AECOM's Nicola Henderson, chair of Brit- ish Water's Municipal Market Group, "is that it is a snapshot and once it has been delivered, it is gone. With so many good examples of innovation coming forward, even with copies of the presentations in front of you, the task of finding what might interest you is extremely daunting." BWise is designed to make the task very much easier. Brit- ish Water members are encour- aged to upload as many of their innovations as they wish. There is no charge for them to do so and the process could not be simpler. Each British Water member is issued with a unique username and password that "BWise has been purpose-built for British Water members to promote themselves and their innovations." Jeremy Bayfi eld, British Water's commercial manager, says: "BWise has been purpose- built for British Water members to promote themselves and their innovations." Searching for innovation could not be easier. BWise is free to anyone looking for innovation, using the same criteria selected by British Water members when they upload their data. The selection criteria is listed under three main headings: • What does it do? e.g. improve time, cost, qual- ity, sustainability, health and safety or all • What is it? e.g. a prod- uct, process, system, methodology or all • Where is it? e.g. water, wastewater, sludge, the environ- ment or all Having all the data house on the same website also allows for a word search facil- ity to be available for those with a more specifi c requirement. Bayfi eld says: "Once BWise is up and running, we will promote it – www.bwise. biz – throughout the UK and internationally. BWise repre- sents a huge step forward for the UK water industry supply chain to be able to promote its innovations worldwide. ■ Top: The Water Theatre will discuss the major issues dominating the water industry.
